Little Red & the Gingerbread Man

About the Company: Celebrating 25 years! Barefoot Puppet Theatre has toured award-winning programs to theatres, schools, libraries, children's museums and more since December 1997. The company was founded by Heidi Rugg with her first show, "Little Red & the Gingerbread Man," built in her tiny basement studio space in Northside Richmond. From these humble beginnings, the company has grown, touring in ever widening circles from Richmond, Virginia at venues including The Smithsonian Discovery Theater, The Puppet Showplace Theatre in Boston, The 2005 Puppeteers of America National Puppetry Festival, and The Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta. In 2008, Barefoot Puppet Theatre made their international debut at the Puppets Up! festival in Ontario, Canada. The company has also performed at numerous schools and libraries throughout the Commonwealth and is proud to be listed on the Virginia Commission for the Arts Touring Artist Roster.
Heidi is an active teaching artist, working locally with youth and nationally with the wider puppetry community. She is a Greater Richmond Wolf Trap Teaching Artist and is also on the Virginia Commission for the Arts Teaching Artist Roster. She continues building new shows in Richmond's Northside, from her new (not-in-a-basement) studio space. She is excited to be sharing "Little Red & the Gingerbread Man" as part of Winter Puppetfest 2022 and the 25th anniversary of the show!
